| reen Hills Memorial Park opened its gates in 1948 to serve the needs of a growing post-World War II community in the San Pedro/Peninsula area. The existing smaller cemeteries in the local area were not adequate to meet the community’s needs for memorial interment property. One hundred and twenty acres were acquired by a partnership of local businessmen with the goal of transforming the parcel into a worthy location for the memorialization of deceased loved ones. |
| he vision of the founders was to create a location of beauty, retaining a park-like setting of rolling grassy hills and manicured gardens. Acceptance was immediate by local residents, and the first interment took place in the spring of 1948. A small staff began the quest of providing information regarding the benefit of pre-selection of interment property, and within a few years thousands of residents had purchased a location for the needs of their families. |

Within twenty years a mortuary facility was completed and Green Hills Memorial Park was able to offer families a combination of services within one location. |

| n Easter Sunrise Service was held for the first time in the spring of 1948 and has been celebrated annually since. Today it is the largest Easter Sunrise outdoor Service in the South Bay area. Honoring our fallen soldiers has taken place at Memorial Day services at Green Hills Memorial Park. Presently, Memorial Day weekend sees approximately 15,000 visitors to the |
| park, with over 3,000 in attendance for the annual Observance. Concerts and other events have been sponsored by the park identifying Green Hills Memorial Park as a center of many civic and cultural activities for the local community. |
